The Argentine government has made progress in modernizing the state-owned company in charge of exploiting the coal deposit in Río Turbio, Santa Cruz, along with the management of railway and port services in Punta Loyola and Río Gallegos. Through decree 115/2025, published in the Official Gazette, the entity became a public limited company, with the aim of improving its operational efficiency and strengthening the countrys logistics infrastructure. The measure is part of a restructuring plan aimed at boosting competitiveness in foreign trade. The decree establishes the transfer of assets, liabilities and personnel to the new business structure, promoting the incorporation of advanced technologies and innovative management practices. Among the main improvements, the implementation of digital systems for monitoring and control in real time stands out, which will optimize the loading, transportation and distribution of goods. This modernization seeks to reduce logistics costs and operating times, aligning the system with international standards. One of the central axes of the transformation is the updating of the railway network and the modernisation of port terminals. These changes will facilitate the transport of large volumes of cargo and improve connectivity between the countrys productive regions and the main export ports. The digitalisation of operations will allow for more efficient coordination between the different modes of transport, enhancing intermodal logistics and guaranteeing a more agile and secure flow of goods. In addition to the modernization of infrastructure, the restructuring promotes investment in technology applied to supply chain management. The integration of digital tools will enable real-time monitoring of cargo, route optimization and more efficient strategic planning. These improvements will favor the competitiveness of the national logistics sector, facilitating access to new markets and consolidating the countrys position in international trade. The conversion of the company into a public limited company also opens up the possibility of attracting private investment, without losing strategic control by the State. This new management scheme will allow for the creation of an environment conducive to innovation and the development of advanced logistics solutions, ensuring the sustainability of operations in the long term. Likewise, deadlines have been established for the presentation of investment plans and budgets for the expansion of operational capacity. With this transformation, the Government seeks to strengthen the countrys logistics infrastructure, adapting it to the demands of global trade. The modernization of the transportation network and the improvement in coordination between the different links in the supply chain will contribute to increasing operational efficiency and consolidating Argentinas position in international markets. |
