The provincial government announced the tender for the expansion of the Mari Menuco water treatment plant, with the aim of doubling its production capacity and reserve of drinking water. The project will benefit Plottier, Vista Alegre, Neuquén capital and Centenario, allowing for improved supply in these localities. The envelopes with the offers will be opened on March 14. The project, which has an official budget of 44,806,873,809.85 pesos and a two-year execution period, was presented by the governor during an event with municipal authorities. According to him, this work is key to the water management strategy in the province, ensuring a more efficient distribution of the resource. Currently, the Mari Menuco water treatment plant supplies water to Neuquén and Centenario. With the expansion, new connections will be incorporated to include Plottier and Vista Alegre, in addition to extending coverage to other sectors of the Neuquén capital and Centenario. The project is financed by the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), which disbursed 100 million dollars for its execution. The president of the Provincial Water and Sanitation Authority (EPAS) highlighted that this is the largest plant in Patagonia, increasing production from 9,000 cubic meters per hour to 18,000. Mayors of the benefited localities agreed on the importance of the project to guarantee access to drinking water and plan urban growth in the region. The works will be divided into three main areas: Section A : Repair of the existing 1,900 mm diameter aqueduct pipeline, including the construction of a parallel channel to guarantee supply while the works are carried out. Section B : Expansion of the plants reserve and filters, doubling existing facilities, such as the 6,000 cubic metre cistern, rapid filters and pumping station. Section C : Construction of a 630 mm diameter pipeline to a reservoir on the plateau, with a pumping station to supply new neighborhoods and expanding sectors.
