Work Detail A Sydney man has been charged after a solar panel allegedly detached from a portable power station he was towing crashed through the windscreen of another car, striking and killing its driver. Police in New South Wales (NSW) in Australia have charged a 32-year-old man over a fatal road crash near Yass in the south of the state late last year. Police said that at around 18:20 on 8 December 2024, emergency services responded to reports of a motorist who was struck by an object while driving on the Burley Griffin Way about 50km north-west of Yass. Police say a 49-year-old Canberra man was struck by a solar panel that broke off a portable solar power unit being towed by an oncoming car. The man died on the spot before emergency services arrived. The three passengers in the car were not injured. The driver of the vehicle towing the portable solar power plant was also not injured. Police have launched an investigation into the incident and have charged the driver, from Church Point, a northern Sydney suburb, with reckless driving of a loaded trailer causing death. The man has been summoned to appear before Young Local Court on 9 April 2025.
