The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has secured key land parcels near Katraj Chowk, providing a much-needed boost to the Katraj-Kondhwa road widening and flyover construction projects that had been delayed due to land acquisition issues. According to Aniruddha Pawaskar, PMCs road department chief, the civic body has acquired 3,968 sq. meters of land for ?21 crore, which will be utilized to expand Katraj Chowk and widen the road. Discussions are ongoing with other landowners to acquire more land, and PMC is hopeful of further progress. The Katraj-Kondhwa road widening project, launched in October 2018, had faced hurdles as landowners demanded cash compensation. PMC has sought ?200 crore in financial aid from the state government for land acquisition and has received ?138 crore so far. Major bottlenecks remain at Khadi Machine Chowk, Rajas Society Chowk, and Kanha Hotel Chowk. With fresh land acquisitions, PMC expects the pace of work to accelerate, easing traffic congestion in the area. |
