Work Detail With the aim of improving the electricity supply in the Metropolitan Area of ??Buenos Aires (AMBA), the Government launched a tender for USD 500 million for the contracting of energy storage plants. The initiative, published through Resolution 67/2025 under the name “Almacenamiento GBA – AlmaGBA”, seeks to incorporate 500 MW of capacity in critical nodes. The project involves the installation of state-of-the-art batteries to inject energy into the system in the event of shortages, ensuring a stable supply during peak demand. According to the Energy Secretariat, this solution will initially be applied in the AMBA and the provinces are invited to replicate the strategy in their territories. Storage will be provided by Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) , which will enable rapid response to system needs, providing short-duration capacity and voltage control. The infrastructure will also contribute to reactive power management, reducing risks in pre-existing facilities. The storage contracts will be signed with the distributors Edenor and Edesur , and will have the Wholesale Electricity Market Administration Company (CAMMESA) as guarantor. The execution period of the work will be between 12 and 18 months, and represents a significant advance in the modernization of the Argentine electrical system after years of disinvestment. This plan is part of a set of measures framed in the Energy Contingency Plan , which seeks to strengthen the electrical infrastructure throughout the country. With the AMBA representing 40% of national consumption, this project aims to avoid power outages and improve the efficiency of the system.
