Work Detail |
The national government announced the total privatization of the company Belgrano Cargas y Logística SA, initiating the process through a decree signed by President Javier Milei. With this measure, the State will cease to be the operator of freight railway services, transferring the management of rolling stock, tracks, workshops and buildings to a private company. Privatisation will be carried out in seven different concession processes: one concession for the track with the right to collect tolls, two concessions for locomotives, two concessions for wagons and two concessions for workshops. This scheme seeks to promote competition and prevent the formation of monopolies in the sector. The railway infrastructure will remain the property of the national State, while access to the tracks will be open to the public, allowing the circulation of different freight operators. The privatization proposal will be in charge of the Agency for the Transformation of Public Companies, led by Diego Chaher. Belgrano Cargas y Logística SA, created in 2013, operates the Belgrano, San Martín and Urquiza lines, crossing 17 provinces and playing a key role in the transport of grains for export. According to the government, the company has requested state subsidies of 112 million dollars annually and maintains a transport efficiency similar to that of 50 years ago. The Executive maintains that privatization will increase the competitiveness and efficiency of the freight railway system. This process is part of a broader plan that includes the privatization of other state-owned companies such as Intercargo SAU, Enarsa, AYSA, SOFSE and Corredores Viales SA, in accordance with Article 7 of the Basic Law. |
