Origami Solar has launched its first high-tech automated production line for solar module frames at Priefert Steel’s facility in Benton, Arkansas. This is just the beginning, as more production lines are planned. The timing is crucial, with the U.S. government set to impose a 25% tariff on imported steel and aluminum. In partnership with Priefert Steel and DAC Robotics, Origami Solar has developed an advanced system to mass-produce durable steel frames for solar modules. These frames offer a cost-effective, American-made alternative to imported aluminum, helping U.S. solar manufacturers reduce costs and reliance on foreign suppliers. Steel frames not only provide greater strength but also have a 90% lower carbon footprint. Their quick domestic delivery—within 1–2 days—eliminates the risks tied to overseas shipments, such as delays, geopolitical issues, and rising tariffs. With the upcoming tariffs driving up costs for imported materials, Origami Solar’s expansion strengthens the domestic supply chain, ensuring a more secure and sustainable future for the U.S. solar industry. With Priefert Steel’s expertise in steel roll-forming and DAC Robotics’ advanced automation, Origami Solar has developed a highly efficient manufacturing system. This process rapidly converts flat steel coils into fully formed solar frame components in just seconds. The fully automated system customizes frame lengths, punches holes, and inserts corner keys in one seamless operation. DAC Robotics’ specialized automation also handles final assembly and packaging, ensuring each frame meets high-quality standards with exceptional speed and precision.
