TCN successfully commissioned 48 transformer projects across the country in 2024, increasing Nigeria’s total power transmission capacity The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is continuing to upgrade transformers at substations across the country as it seeks to improve bulk electricity supply. Some of the projects are being carried out in partnership with the World Bank. This past weekend, TCN announced that it has energised a new 100/125MVA power transformer at the 132/33kV Effurun Transmission Substation. The transformer increased the substation’s capacity by 80MW, bringing it up to 176MW. The upgrade will allow Benin DisCo (electricity distribution company) to provide more bulk power to its customers in Effurun (in the Delta State) and surrounding areas. “The upgrade is part of the ongoing TCN-World Bank power projects execution across the country,” said TCN on X. Electricity infrastructure projects on the go in Nigeria Last week, the World Bank Executive Director for Angola-Nigeria-South Africa (ANSA), Zainab Ahmed, visited TCN’s Central Business District (CBD) substation. She was accompanied by TCN officials to inspect the ongoing transformers project which is part of TCN’s Nigeria Electricity Transmission Projects (NETAP). The project includes upgrading the CBD substation with two 100MVA transformers. TCN said that one has been fully installed, while installation work is ongoing on the second transformer. |
