The company will serve as the owner’s engineer and technical advisor. Global engineering, procurement, consulting and construction company Black & Veatch has been selected to build 200 megawatt hours (MWh) of battery energy storage solution (BESS) in the UK. Two UK-based companies have appointed Black & Veatch as the owner’s engineer (OE) and technical advisor (TA) on two BESS projects in Scotland and northwest England. The UK government unveiled emissions reduction targets in 2023, planning to become net zero by 2050. Scotland has set its own target and intends to become a net zero economy by 2045. Black & Veatch will act as an independent advocate, ensuring all contractor deliverables meet the highest technical standards. The company will offer technical advice, construction monitoring, schedule tracking, and oversight on both projects’ development, design and construction phases. Black & Veatch Middle East and Africa renewables and grid solutions director in Europe and associate vice-president Robbie Gibson added: “With over 21 gigawatt hours of global energy storage project experience and counting, we leverage our extensive knowledge to deliver unparalleled expertise to our clients and their communities. “Integrating battery energy storage systems into utilities across the UK enhances grid resilience, optimises plant performance and promotes sustainable and cost-effective energy practices.” Black & Veatch has a strong track record of operating as the TA, OE and due diligence provider. It has worked on numerous projects, with a combined energy capacity of 4GWh, across Europe and the Middle East, and was selected in 2024 as the OE for PETROS Power’s Miri combined cycle gas turbine power plant in Sarawak, Malaysia. |
