Centralised generation expanded by 1.35 GW in the first month of the year, led by solar energy with an increase of 567.2 MW. The National Electric Energy Agency estimates that generation capacity will grow by 9.95 GW until 2025. The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) expects another year of accelerated expansion of the Brazilian electricity grid. According to estimates from the Agencys technical departments, the forecast for expansion of supply until 2025 is 9.95 GW of installed capacity. If confirmed, this figure will be close to the records reached in 2023 (10,316 MW) and 2024 (10,792 MW). In January, the increase was 1.35 GW. A total of 26 plants entered commercial operation in the month, including 13 solar photovoltaic plants (567.21 MW), two thermal power plants (459.00 MW), 10 wind farms (315.00 MW) and one small hydroelectric plant (9.33 MW). Seven states in four regions of Brazil had projects released for commercial operation in the first month of 2025. The most notable, in descending order, were Mato Grosso do Sul, with 384.00 MW resulting from the start-up of the Geradora Suzano Thermoelectric Power Plant, and Minas Gerais, with seven plants and 336.83 MW installed. Of the 13 new large PV plants that came online in January, seven are in Minas Gerais, with a combined generating capacity of 337 MW, and the other six are in Rio Grande, with a total capacity of 230 MW. |
