Work Detail Pacific Energy, an independent-grid energy supplier, is developing a 26 MW hybrid energy power system for a mine in New South Wales, Australia. The project will include solar and BESS capabilities and will power the Atlas-Campaspe mineral sands mine operation owned by chemical producer Tronox. The hybrid site will include an 11 MW solar farm, a 3 MW / 6 MWh BESS, and a 12 MW diesel generator. Furthermore, the site will also include 13 km of high-voltage power lines. It is expected to provide the mine with 40% of its total power supply. It will include the ability to be powered exclusively by renewable energy when solar is in oversupply – which will likely be often – in a function called “hydrocarbons-off”. Per year, the hybrid project will hopefully decrease both Tronox’s carbon emissions by 13,000 and its diesel use by around 5m litres. With all power conversion units placed and around 50 of the electrical works complete, switching on the off-grid project is anticipated for the middle of this year. Pacific Energy comments: “The solar farm mechanical build is progressing well. The in-house designed and manufactured battery system has been factory acceptance tested and is ready to mobilise.”
