Work Detail Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) has commenced work on the Masirah Island Grid Project, a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at enhancing the efficiency and reliability of the country’s electricity transmission sector. The groundbreaking ceremony, held under the patronage of Minister of Energy and Minerals Engineer Salim Nasser Al Aufi, marks a significant step toward strengthening the nation’s power infrastructure. The project includes the construction of a 132/33 kV Masirah Island Grid Station, a 132 kV subsea cable spanning 25 kilometers, and a 132 kV underground cable running 9 kilometers. Additionally, 132 kV overhead transmission lines extending over 60 kilometers will connect the 400/132 kV Mahout Grid Station with Masirah Island, ensuring a stable power supply to meet the region’s growing electricity demand. With an estimated investment of RO 72 million ($186 million), the project integrates modern and complex technologies to improve service quality, enhance public utilities, and support local communities. It is also expected to attract future investments by ensuring a reliable energy supply. Speaking at the event, OETC CEO Engineer Saleh Nasser Al Rumhi reaffirmed the company’s commitment to strengthening Oman’s electricity transmission network and aligning its performance with global standards. He emphasized that the project plays a strategic role in achieving Oman’s energy transformation objectives while adhering to internationally approved frameworks. The Masirah Island Grid Project is a key component of OETC’s long-term sustainability strategy and is expected to contribute significantly to Oman’s Net-Zero emissions goal by 2050. The project is projected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 80,000 tonnes annually, supporting the country’s efforts toward a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
