Work Detail Major new highway works are planned for India. The new toll road linking Bengaluru with Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) is due to open in mid-2025. The new 20km route connecting Bengaluru to KIA will reduce journey times for drivers. For much of its length, the route has two lanes in either direction though on some stretches, it has three lanes in either direction. The work has been carried out by Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL) but has been subject to a number of delays. Also in the Bengaluru area, tendering is underway for work to two stretches of the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR). The tender process is being managed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). One of the projects is for a 79km stretch and the other for a 65km stretch that includes an 8.5km elevated section, with both intended to feature two lanes in either direction. An 18.4km elevated corridor link will form part of the Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road in Chennai. This project is being managed by NHAI and will feature three lanes in either direction and have three junctions with entry and exit ramps. And the 133km Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (CPRR) is expected to be complete by the end of 2025. NHAI says that two stretches of the Delhi-Katra Expressway should be complete in the second quarter of 2026. This should boost transport and reduce traffic delays. Meanwhile, Bihar and Goa India are to benefit from major highway works that will speed transport. In Goa a new road is due for completion in mid-2025. This important project will halve journey times between Goa and Mumbai to six hours. Work still remains to be completed on flyovers, bypasses and underpasses on parts of the route including in Chiplun, Mangaon, Kolad, Indapur, Pali and Lanja. And in Bihar, the existing SH-65 state highway route linking Dhamdaha and Purnia will be widened and improved to dual carriageway status, with two lanes in either direction. The route will connect with Purnia Airport. Also in Bihar, a new bypass will be built between the SH-60 state highway and Bhutaha Mor on NH-107 national highway route. In addition, widening work is being requested for the 27km Neelambur bypass in a bid to cut congestion and boost safety.
