Responding to the Government’s consultation to strengthen the energy performance of privately rented homes, Charles Wood, Deputy Director at Energy UK, said: “This announcement marks a welcome recommitment from the Government to improving energy efficiency standards in rented properties by strengthening EPC requirements. The most affordable energy is the energy we don’t use – yet too many households still lose money and warmth due to inefficient homes. With some of the least energy-efficient housing in Western Europe, there are serious financial and health consequences, particularly for renters who have little control over improving their homes. “With energy bills remaining high, it’s vital that the Government prioritises measures that bring real savings to households and give clarity to the market to ramp up supply chains and training. Boosting energy efficiency is the most effective way to lower energy bills and system costs, and to create warmer, healthier homes for everyone.” |
