Work Detail The plant will power 800,000 homes in the region. Gemma Power Systems, a subsidiary of Argan, will work with Sandow Lakes Energy (SLEC) on the development of a 1.2GW natural gas-fired power plant in Lee County, Texas, US. Gemma will provide engineering, procurement and construction services for the plant, which will feature two Siemens Energy SGT6-9000HL gas turbines. A subsidiary of SLEC will own and develop the plant, which will operate within the Electric Reliability Council of Texas grid. The plant will generate enough energy to power 800,000 homes in the region. Construction will begin in the summer of 2025 and be completed by 2028. The Siemens turbines are fuel-efficient, offer high power output and can run on hydrogen with only minor adjustments to the equipment. They are also expected to provide reliable power to the region while supporting decarbonisation goals. Gemma has been providing solutions for the power industry, including 15GW of installed capacity in the renewable energy sector, covering combined cycle and simple cycle natural gas power plants, biomass-fired power plants, solar installations, wind farms, biofuel facilities and other environmental projects. Gemma CEO Charles Collins stated: “We’re pleased to have this opportunity to work with SLEC on this substantial project. “There is undoubtedly a critical need to bring more power facilities online to support our power grids in meeting the exponentially growing demand for reliable, high-quality energy. “Our team brings proven expertise and a track record of operational execution to exceed customer expectations and deliver project success.”
