Improvement of protective structure by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) along Cullalabo section of Siffu River Flood Control Structure in Burgos, Isabela, provides significant benefits to local residents addressing long-standing flooding and soil erosion issues. DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Region II OIC-Director Mathias L. Malenab, said that the flood control structure aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. administration’s commitment to improve disaster resilience, enhancing infrastructure, and supporting sustainable agricultural development. The newly completed flood control structure spans 836 lineal meters and is designed to fortify the riverbanks and protect nearby properties. The project includes the construction of two (2) beam-reinforced concrete slope protection structures with a 9-meter steel sheet pile foundation, ensuring durability and long-term stability against strong water currents. “With the early completion of the structure along Cullalabo section, communities in this area of Burgos can look forward to enhanced safety, reduced flood risks, and strengthened agricultural sustainability in the Mallig Plains, a key agricultural hub in Burgos, Isabela,” said OIC Director Malenab. The Cullalabo section of the Siffu River Flood Control Project, implemented by the DPWH Isabela 2nd District Engineering Office, was funded with P96.4 million under the 2024 DPWH Regular Infrastructure Program. |
