The two Baltic Power topsides have arrived from Gdynia, Poland, to the Port of Aalborg, Denmark, for further outfitting of the electrical equipment. With the prefabrication phase complete, Semco Maritime’s team in Aalborg is poised to begin outfitting. Semco Maritime and CS Wind Offshore are responsible for the engineering, procurement, fabrication, and installation of the wind farm’s two substations under a contract signed in 2023. During the outfitting stage, various substation levels will be equipped with key components, including main transformers, high-level switchgear, auxiliary switchgear, control and monitoring systems, and other auxiliary equipment. Semco Maritime is responsible for this phase of the project. The two topsides were produced by Baltic Industrial Group at shipyards in Gdynia and Gdansk. Each topside weighs about 1,300 tonnes and has dimensions of 20x40x40 metres, the size of a multi-story building. A single fully equipped topside will weigh about 2,500 tonnes. The two topsides are expected to be ready for sail-out by September 2025 for installation in the Polish sector of the Baltic Sea. Located 23 kilometres off the coast of the Choczewo municipality, the 1,140 MW Baltic Power offshore wind is developed by a joint venture between Orlen Group and Northland Power. Construction of the project’s onshore infrastructure has been underway since 2023, and offshore installation work started in early 2025. |
