Work Detail The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has launched a new initiative in Aden aimed at empowering Yemeni women in the renewable energy sector. The project will establish 375 small-scale programs focused on producing and marketing solar-powered household devices, including lanterns, stoves, and traditional ovens. As part of the initiative, 375 women will receive vocational training in solar energy applications, life skills, business management, and specialized training on solar lanterns and traditional ovens. Additionally, the program will provide alternative solar energy solutions such as basic lighting and cooking devices, benefiting 21,375 women in Hadramout and Lahij. UNDP project manager Alaa Ali highlighted that the initiative aims to address energy shortages in vulnerable communities while fostering sustainable livelihoods for women. Ali emphasized that the project will enhance women’s participation in solar energy enterprises and expand the use of renewable energy for household activities and lighting. It will also support women in launching market-driven projects tailored to local needs, thereby improving economic opportunities, enhancing their quality of life, and contributing to sustainable development. This initiative is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader efforts, through KSrelief, to empower women in Yemen by equipping them with the necessary tools to generate income and strengthen their role in society.
