Chatra, Jharkhand: Roots Foundation, a non-profit focused on sustainable rural development, has partnered with Coal India Ltd (CIL) to launch the Harit Samriddhi project in Jharkhand. This initiative, part of CIL’s corporate social responsibility efforts, aims to increase farmers’ income and promote inclusive growth in the agrarian economy of Chatra district. The project, which is initially being implemented in the Tandwa and Simaria blocks of the district, will provide farmers with training and support to improve agricultural practices and enhance livelihoods. Approximately 2,000 farmers are set to receive training at two dedicated centers, with over 1,000 already trained and certified by the Agricultural Skill Council of India. The training focuses on modern farming techniques and introduces farmers to the latest agricultural tools, enabling them to tackle crop-related challenges and increase productivity. Chatra, an aspirational district, is heavily reliant on agriculture, with most of its population depending on farming for their livelihood. The Harit Samriddhi project seeks to modernize farming practices and encourage crop diversification. Sunil Kumar, a local farmer, expressed that the support from Coal India and Roots Foundation has opened doors to training and sustainable income opportunities, offering hope for a better future for the farming community. Additionally, 60 demonstration farms are being established across 60 villages in Tandwa and Simaria. These farms will act as hubs of knowledge and support, providing farmers with essential inputs such as seeds and fertilizers. The Harit Samriddhi project continues to focus on empowering farmers, equipping them with the skills, tools, and resources needed to thrive in a changing agricultural landscape. |
