The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has installed slope protection netting to mitigate the risk of landslides along the mountainous section of Vallehermoso-La Castellana Road in Barangay Tagbino, Vallehermoso, Negros Oriental. Vallehermoso-La Castellana Road is a vital passageway that connects the provinces of Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental—a major route for vehicles carrying agricultural products. Based on the report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan by the DPWH Negros Oriental 1st District Engineering Office, the P110.98-million rockfall netting improvement project along the 140-meter section of the road now provides reliable access for the transportation of goods and reaching essential facilities in the vicinity. Installed along the mountainous road by the DPWH Negros Oriental 1st District Engineering Office is an active wire mesh system, which not only is a cost-effective erosion control, but also blends with the surrounding environment and preserves natural landscape. “Prior to the installation of the rockfall netting project, disrupted local transportation and obstructed access to critical public facilities has been a common problem due to falling of debris during heavy rainfall and seismic activities. |
