Award for hydraulic works in La Emilia: $840 million to prevent flooding The Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Services of the province of Buenos Aires published in the Official Gazette the call for tenders to carry out hydraulic protection works in La Emilia, San Nicolás District. With an official investment of $801,723,765, the project seeks to reduce the impact of the flooding of the Arroyo del Medio, a historical problem in the region. The work will be carried out over a three-year period and will include the restoration of the closing embankment and the operation and maintenance of the pumping station. This infrastructure is key to avoiding floods and will benefit more than 5,000 inhabitants. The opening of envelopes with the technical offers of the interested companies is scheduled for October 23. Project Features The pumping station will allow the transfer of excess water when the natural flow of water is impeded and it is necessary to close the floodgates. The plan also includes the profiling and maintenance of the service road on the 5-kilometer embankment, the cleaning and expansion of accessories and sewers, and a raising of the embankment, which must be completed in the first six months after the start of the works. Urgency of the work In March 2024, La Emilia was again on alert due to the risk of an overflow of the Arroyo del Medio, which revived concerns about the containment capacity of the hydraulic system. The situation recalled the serious flood of January 2017, which severely affected the town and generated the need for definitive solutions.
