The Municipality has launched a tender to concession the management of the sports venues of the José María Minella Stadium, the Islas Malvinas Sports Centre and the Sports Park to a private company. The decision was taken after the City Council approved the authorization for the Executive Department to grant these spaces in concession. The tender, published in the Official Gazette, establishes that the company that wins the concession will be responsible for carrying out infrastructure and maintenance work in the sports facilities, as well as presenting a maintenance program for the common areas. Interested companies are expected to submit proposals that include improvements and services for the sports facilities. The tender document establishes a 30-year term for the concession, with the possibility of a 10-year extension. The companies will have to pay an annual fee of $120 million, payable in monthly installments starting in the third year of the concession. In addition, it is estimated that the works necessary for the sports venues will require an investment of 15 million dollars. The tender will allow companies to submit proposals covering other areas of the Sports Park and even constructions for accommodation, thus expanding the possibilities for development and exploitation of sports facilities. The launch of the tender comes amid a controversy over the state of the pitch at the José María Minella Stadium, following a concert. An opposition councillor questioned the state of the pitch and submitted a request for information to find out the fee that the government will charge for the concert. In addition, it has been questioned that the tender document does not expressly guarantee that local teams will continue to use the Minella Stadium and the Sports Centre free of charge for national competitions, as is the case until now. In short, the tender seeks to improve the infrastructure and maintenance of sports venues, as well as to increase the number of events held there. Interested companies are expected to submit innovative proposals that contribute to the development of sports in the city. |
