The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has successfully extended the riverbank protection structure aimed at mitigating flood risks along Balagtas River, in Barangay Pulong Gubat, Balagtas, Bulacan. A P96.5-million project, funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA), was completed which consists of additional riverbank protection spanning 252.80 linear meters. The structure also includes a 12-meter sheet pile foundation to enhance slope protection and reduce the risk of overflow during extreme weather conditions. In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Region 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino said that the completed structure which is the second segment of a flood control project in Barangay Pulong Gubat, will aid in controlling the high volume of water, safeguarding residential areas, and preserving vital livelihoods, including agriculture, livestock, and poultry farming. “This project is crucial in addressing the recurring flooding in Barangay Pulong Gubat, which has long been a concern for residents,” said Director Tolentino. The flood control structure was implemented by the Bulacan 1st District Engineering Office under District Engineer Henry Alcantara, and was completed in December 2024. |
