EEW SPC, CS Wind, DEME and Jan De Nul lined up for German offshore wind farm Vattenfall has awarded a clutch of contracts for its Nordlicht offshore wind farm, signing deals with EEW SPC, CS Wind Offshore, DEME and Jan De Nul. EEW SPC will deliver 112 monopiles to the Nordlicht 1 and 2 project, which is situated 85km north of the island of Borkum in the German North Sea. The 980MW Nordlicht 1 offshore wind farm will have 68 monopiles, while Nordlicht 2, with a 630MW connection, will stand on 44 foundations. EEW SPC will process around 141,000 tonnes of steel at their Rostock site for the project, and the monopiles will all have a diameter of 10 metres. Production at the Rostock plant is planned from the end of 2025 to mid-2027. Executive project director for Nordlicht cluster at Vattenfall Cyril Moss said: “For more than a decade, we at Vattenfall have put our trust in EEW to produce and deliver monopiles for a number of our wind farms. “On Nordlicht, we will again rely on their expertise and dedication to meet our requirements and to enable us to deliver on our renewable energy commitments and on the next phase of Germany’s energy transition.” Meanwhile CS Wind Offshore has signed two contracts to manufacture 112 transition pieces (pictured) for Nordlicht 1 and 2. Vattenfall’s head of project delivery and engineering Mats Vikholm said: “The transition pieces are a vital component of the Nordlicht wind farms, ensuring the seamless integration of turbines and foundations. “By partnering with CS Wind Offshore, we are securing high-quality solutions that align with our commitment to delivering reliable, renewable energy for millions of households.” Manufacturing of the 68 transition pieces for Nordlicht 1 and the 44 transition pieces for Nordlicht 2 will commence at CS Winds production site at Port of Aalborg, Denmark, during 2025. DEME has been awarded contracts for the transport and installation of 112 foundations at the Nordlicht wind farm, and has also secured the contract for the scour protection at both sites. Jan De Nul won the contract for inter-array cables, subsea cables that transmit electricity between offshore wind turbines. Jan De Nul will install 196 kilometres of cables to connect the 112 wind turbines. Scheduled for commissioning in 2028, the Nordlicht wind farm in the German North Sea will generate enough green energy to meet the electricity demands of over 1.7 million German households. Pending a final investment decision, which is expected in 2025, offshore construction for Nordlicht 1 and 2 is anticipated to begin in 2026, with full operational status expected by 2028. |
