Supply agreement with chemicals producer LyondellBasell is for output from a 30MW facility WPD has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Netherlands-based company LyondellBasell for output from an Italian wind project. The 30MW Licata wind project (pictured) is located on the southern coast of Sicily and is under construction. It will feature seven Vestas V150 turbines and is the first project from a 1.3GW pipeline in Italy, which WPD is realising. “Partnering with wpd on the Licata wind project is a clear step forward in LyondellBasell’s journey to provide innovative, lower-carbon solutions,” said Chris Cain, LyondellBasell’s senior vice president, net zero transition strategy. “Securing reliable, onshore wind power for our Ferrara operations helps us accelerate our emissions reduction efforts while supporting the long-term growth of sustainable industrial practices in Italy.” Andreas Chollet, head of project development for Italy at WPD, said: “As an experienced, reliable and competent partner for long-term power supply contracts, we offer customized solutions for climate-friendly economic activity at eye level. “We are very pleased to have found a reliable partner in LyondellBasell and to be able to support them in their transition to a more sustainable future.” With a global project pipeline of 19,320MW for onshore wind and 5015MW for solar, WPD has strong prospects for further PPAs. |
