Work Detail |
Work is progressing on Nepal’s Kathmandu-Tarai expressway. Work is nearly 40% complete for Nepal’s crucial Kathmandu-Tarai expressway project. The project will deliver greater connectivity to Nepal, improving transport to and from capital Kathmandu. But the work faces numerous technical challenges due to the geology and topography of this mountainous nation. Around 40% of the financing is in place for the work, worth US$522.3 million (NPR 72.41 billion). In all the route will feature seven tunnels, measuring a total of nearly 11km. The 1.7km tunnel at Dhedre and the 1.6km tunnel at Lendanda have already been completed. Work on the tunnel at Mahadevtar is 65% finished and construction is underway for the 2.25km tunnel at Chandram Bhir, the 1km tunnel at Devichaur and the 390m tunnel at Sisautar. Meanwhile, plans are moving ahead for work to the tunnel at Mauri Bhir, with the necessary approvals having been secured in the third quarter of 2024. |
