Mumbai: Adani Group’s Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIAL), poised to serve as the second major aviation hub for India’s financial capital, plans to raise ?20,000 crore in the second half of FY26 to fund the next phase of the greenfield project, which is set to be operational by 2029. The first phase of the airport is scheduled for inauguration on April 17, with domestic operations expected to begin in May, followed by international flights starting in July. Once fully completed by 2036, the Navi Mumbai airport is projected to handle 90 million passengers annually, with a declared capacity of 20 million passengers in its first phase. A senior Adani official, who chose to remain anonymous, explained that initial phases of greenfield projects often incur higher costs due to groundwork, rehabilitation, and development. We have also combined the initial developments of both the first and second phases to streamline the process, the official said. The airport is also incorporating key infrastructure such as metro footings, automated people mover (APM) footings, and an underground tunnel for terminal connectivity in the first and second phases. This strategy aims to ensure that future expansions will not disrupt airside operations. |
