PNN 88784
Work Detail A mapping conducted by Greener identified 51 transactions carried out in 2024. In the distributed generation segment, the mapped operations affect 248 plants totaling more than 700 MW, compared to 17 plants and 100 MW in 2023. The data is part of the consultancy firms latest M&A Bulletin. The number of transactions and acquisitions involving solar plants and companies increased by 76% in 2024, from 29 in 2023 to 51 last year, according to Greener’s M&A Bulletin 2024. The transactions involved the acquisition of 366 photovoltaic plants for a total of more than 3.6 GWp (some assets had their capacity undisclosed). The historical record points to an acceleration in purchase and sale operations. In 2023, the number of mapped transactions in the solar sector grew by 26% to 29, compared to 23 in 2022. Distributed generation saw the most significant growth in M&A activity in 2024. Transactions affected 248 plants last year, up from 17 identified in the 2023 mapping, an increase of more than 14-fold. In terms of installed capacity, DG M&A activity in 2024 totalled at least 700 MW, up from 100 MW in 2023. Centralized generation: self-production at par and slowdown in the second half The majority of transactions recorded in 2024, i.e. 21, were for centralised generation plants, representing a four-fold increase compared to 2023, when five transactions were identified. Greener noted that more than half of centralised generation transactions involved the self-production matching model, with 37 plants negotiated, out of a total of 88 plants, totalling more than 2.9 GWp. Despite accounting for the bulk of transactions, the centralised generation segment slowed down in the last half of the year. Mergers and acquisitions identified in the second half of 2024 affected 24 900 MW plants, compared to 28 (1.3 GW) in the same period of 2023 and 40 (1 GW) in the second half of 2022.
