Work Detail The official organ of the ruling Communist Party, Granma, reports that thefts of wiring from facilities are also taking place in several provinces of the country. The theft of solar panels and electrical wiring that connects them to water pumping systems installed in different provinces of Cuba has been reported on the official website of Granma, the organ of the ruling communist party. The news item describes this as having occurred “with water supply systems that operate using photovoltaic panels, located in hundreds of isolated communities across the nation.” It is mentioned that “criminal acts” are taking place in several provinces of the country, “committed by unscrupulous people who steal electrical installations and even solar panels.” Among the provinces mentioned is Holguín, where “at least three pumping systems corresponding to the program have been affected by theft, including one in the town of Pedernales, near the city of Holguín, where solar panels were stolen on two occasions.” Villa Clara is another of the affected provinces, with two robberies, “one in the Ranchuelo Development Zone, where solar panels were stolen, and the other in a Logistics warehouse in the territory,” it is specified. The Cuban governments water pumping systems program involves the installation of 1,312 units throughout the country , each with a power of ten kW, which is expected to save 10,000 tons of diesel in power generation equipment.
