Both schemes will have 500MW of photovoltaic and 500MWh of BESS capacity The European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has provided long-term loans totalling $145m for two solar and battery projects in Uzbekistan. Sazagan Solar 1 and 2 both comprise 500MW of solar and 500 megawatt hour (MWh) battery energy storage systems (BESS). The EBRD is providing a long-term, senior loan up to $70m for the development, design, construction and operation of Sazagan Solar 1 project in the Samarkand region in addition to the interconnection facilities. ACWA Power Sazagan Solar 1, a special purpose vehicle established in Uzbekistan, will act as the borrower. ACWA Power will act as the sponsor for the project, while Sumitomo Corporation will be a co-sponsor. For the Sazagan Solar 2 project the EBRD is providing a long-term, senior loan up to $75m. The project will located in the Samarkand and Bukhara regions, respectively, in addition to the interconnection facilities. ACWA Power Sazagan Solar 2, a special purpose vehicle established in Uzbekistan, will act as the borrower. ACWA Power will act as the sponsor for the Project while Sumitomo Corporation will be a co-sponsor. Both projects will help to improve reliability of intermittent solar power generation in Uzbekistan by introducing battery storage and is among the largest in Central Asia. |
