Traveling to various areas in the central Iloilo Province is now safer and more convenient with the upgrading of the New Lucena-Sta. Barbara Road by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). According to DPWH Region 6 Director Sanny Boy Oropel, the project involved asphalt paving of the 8.6-kilometer, two (2)-lane road with 613-meter lined canal and sidewalk, including 222-meter concrete shoulders. “With the asphalt road, local motorists now experience increased mobility and faster travel between the towns of New Lucena and Sta. Barbara, as well as neighboring municipalities,” said Director Oropel. Besides enhancing the surface ability of the road, asphalt overlay is also a cost-effective solution as it extends pavement lifespan, reducing maintenance requirement from the government. Other works on the project also include the installation of reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings and warning signs as safety features for motorists and pedestrians. DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office implemented the project in the amount of P122.4 million. |
