Worm Power, a global leader in vermicompost products, has been awarded $900,000 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Fertilizer Production Expansion Program (FPEP). The grant will support the company’s efforts to scale up operations at its ten-acre vermicomposting facility in Avon, N.Y., and optimize manufacturing processes to meet growing demand for its sustainable, earthworm-powered fertilizers. “This funding allows us to accelerate Worm Power’s next growth phase,” said Patrick Burke, Managing CEO. “There’s a surging demand for all-natural, organic fertilizers and biostimulants. Growers come to us for solutions that improve crop yield, nutrient intake, and reduce carbon footprints. With this grant, we’ll expand production—potentially tenfold—enabling greater access to our products and supporting more sustainable farming practices.” Worm Power’s flagship product, vermicompost, leverages the natural digestive power of earthworms to create a soil additive that improves crop performance. The solution, recognized for its innovative production methods and proven results, is widely used across commercial agriculture, turf management, high-value horticulture, and hobby farming. Backed by field research and academic validation, it has attracted significant attention from investors and customers alike. Currently operating the largest process-controlled vermicompost facility in North America, Worm Power houses tens of millions of red wigglers that work daily across its property. With the USDA grant, the company will undertake a series of facility upgrades, including modernizing equipment, constructing additional storage and production buildings, and improving logistics for on-site loading and shipping. The total project is estimated at $1.8 million, with Worm Power committing to match 40% of the USDA’s grant funding. Burke emphasized the grant’s transformative impact, noting that production goals could now be achieved 18 months ahead of schedule. “This investment not only fast-tracks our expansion but also supports the economic sustainability of the family-owned dairy we partner with. By increasing production, we’re enhancing the fortunes of a local farm while promoting sustainable agricultural practices nationwide.” The FPEP grants, introduced by the Biden-Harris administration and administered by USDA’s Rural Business-Cooperative Service, aim to boost U.S. fertilizer production, increase competition, and counter price hikes impacting farmers. Worm Power’s commitment to sustainability and farmer-focused innovation aligns closely with the program’s goals, positioning the company to drive meaningful change in the agriculture industry. Since 2003, Worm Power has been a global pioneer in organic vermicompost products, revolutionizing sustainable farming practices. The company’s innovative solutions are designed to enhance crop yield and boost plant performance by promoting healthier root development and optimizing plant nutrient uptake. Trusted by growers worldwide, Worm Power’s vermicompost has become a go-to choice for improving agricultural efficiency and sustainability. By leveraging the natural power of earthworms, the company delivers eco-friendly products that support better plant health and soil quality. Over the years, Worm Power has consistently demonstrated its commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture and fostering long-term success for farmers. |
