A tender has been launched for the renewal of 13.6 kilometres of track on the Roca line, specifically on the R1A and R2 branches, which include the sections between the Adrogué and Burzaco stations, and between Turdera and Llavallol. This work is part of the actions defined by the railway emergency and seeks to significantly improve the operational safety of the service, avoiding delays and cancellations. From a construction point of view, the work involves a complete renovation of the tracks superstructure. This includes: Rail replacement: Existing rails will be replaced with new rails, improving rolling quality and reducing the risk of failure. Replacement of sleepers: The sleepers (cross members that support the rails) will be replaced with new sleepers, which can be made of wood, concrete or steel, depending on the technical specifications. This ensures the correct geometry of the track and the transmission of loads to the ballast. Replacement of fixings: The fixing systems that hold the rails to the sleepers (bolts, clamps, etc.) will be renewed, guaranteeing the stability of the assembly. Ballast stone replacement: The ballast layer (broken stone surrounding the sleepers) will be replaced with clean, new ballast. The ballast serves the function of distributing loads, dampening vibrations and allowing water drainage. Hydraulic works: Hydraulic works will be carried out, such as the renovation of sewers (considered works of art in railway jargon), to ensure proper drainage of the track and prevent flooding. Renewal of track switches: The track switches (turnouts, track switches) that allow the movement of trains between different tracks will be modernized. In addition to the renovation of the tracks superstructure, the project includes the improvement of eight level crossings and eight pedestrian crossings. These improvements will increase the safety of vehicular and pedestrian traffic at the crossings with the train tracks. This project aims to solve several problems affecting the Roca line service. The renovation of the tracks will reduce the risk of incidents caused by the deterioration of the infrastructure, improving operational safety. In addition, delays and cancellations of services caused by corrective maintenance tasks will be reduced. The improvement of level and pedestrian crossings will increase safety for vehicles and pedestrians crossing the tracks. The work will be carried out by Trenes Argentinos Infraestructura, which is part of the Transportation Secretariat of the Ministry of Economy of the Nation. This work is added to the more than 220 works defined by the Railway Emergency Action Plan.
