Work Detail BC Jindal Group, one of India’s top conglomerates with an annual turnover of over ?18,000 crore, has announced ambitious plans for its renewable energy division, Jindal India Renewable Energy (JIRE). The company is set to expand aggressively by acquiring operational renewable energy assets both in India and overseas. These acquisitions, expected to be finalized within the next 1-2 years, will be financed through a combination of internal funds and debt. JIRE aims to achieve a total power generation capacity of 5 GW within the next four years, utilizing solar, wind, hybrid, hydro, and floating renewable energy (FDRE) technologies. To reach this goal, the company is prioritizing the acquisition of existing operational portfolios in the short term while simultaneously developing new renewable energy projects in regions rich in natural energy resources. These projects will be connected to Central Transmission Utility (CTU) and State Transmission Utility (STU) networks, catering to the energy needs of utility companies as well as industrial and commercial (C&I) customers. Mr. Amit Kumar Mittal, CEO, Jindal India Renewable Energy, said, “In 2025-2026, we are looking to strategically expand our capacity portfolio by acquiring key operational assets within the country and across geographies. JIRE seeks to enhance its play in the RE segment which will increasingly throw up huge opportunities as India’s energy mix undergoes a fundamental transition. For JIRE, these acquisitions will be crucial in shaping the growth trajectory of the company in the coming years.” BC Jindal Group, which already operates a 1,200 MW thermal power plant in Angul, Odisha, has launched Jindal India Renewable Energy (JIRE) as a dedicated entity to lead its renewable energy initiatives. JIRE will oversee the group’s renewable power generation, along with solar cell and module manufacturing operations. Founded in 1952 by Shri B.C. Jindal, the BC Jindal Group began as a steel pipe and fittings manufacturer and has grown into one of India’s largest conglomerates with a strong presence in the power sector. JIRE’s launch marks a significant step toward energy diversification, reflecting the group’s vision for a sustainable future. With a deep commitment to environmental preservation, the company aims not only to meet regulatory requirements but also to ensure a greener planet for generations to come.
