| Work Detail | On Aug. 2, more than 9,380 of America's best and brightest high school students traveled to the peach state of Georgia to connect with top future business leaders, compete in events, add to their industry knowledge and showcase their talents at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) national leadership conference. Among the best and brightest were Cassville students Shannon Haney, Kane Kellner, Jessica Haney, River Phelps, Grant Davis and Jake Whitham. The students were accompanied by local Cassville FBLA Advisor, Brandon McCullough. The conference took placed June 29 through July 2 in Atlanta, Ga., and included students from across the United States and abroad who participated in more than 65 business-related competitive events and enrichment activities. The six Cassville students, who competed in three business-related events, earned the privilege to compete at the national event by going through several rigorous levels of district and state competitions. Jessica Haney, senior, and Shannon Haney, freshman, from Cassville, competed in Public Service Announcement. The brother-sister team created a 30-second video of an original PSA, which they presented to the judges in a live presentation at competition. Kane Kellner, senior, from Shell Knob, Jake Whitham, junior, from Cassville, and River Phelps, junior, from Shell Knob, competed in Mobile Application Development. The three young men worked together to develop a mobile app (available on any smart phone) and gave a live presentation to the judges, explaining and modeling the app. Finally, Grant Davis, sophomore, from Shell Knob, competed in the testing event, Introduction to Business Procedures. In addition to the competitions, students had the opportunity to participate in interactive workshops, visit an information-packed exhibit hall, and hear from motivational speakers on a broad range of business topics. The CHS students also made good use of their time in Atlanta by visiting iconic and educational landmarks such as the world-class Georgia Aquarium, and the World of Coca-Cola. Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc., the premier student business organization, is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) education association with a quarter million members and advisers in over 6,500 active middle school, high school, and college chapters worldwide. Its mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. Missouri FBLA-PBL has nearly 16,000 members in 500 chapters across the state, making it the second largest chapter in the nation. The Cassville chapter, under the advisement of Brandon McCullough and Melanie Grossman, consistently has approximately 100 members and is very active in the school and community. Co-curricular activities include career exploration, civic service, economic education and technical skill advancement. FBLA-PBL also works to encourage and support entrepreneurship. |
