Facility in Jemgum in East Frisia will host 50 staff and will begin operations in 2026 A new control centre for RWEs offshore wind farms is to be built in East Frisia, in Germany. Around 50 RWE employees will move to the new centre, in the municipality of Jemgum, in spring 2026. From here, RWEs existing and future offshore wind farms in Germany and continental Europe will be monitored and controlled around the clock. The building is being built by Real Immobilien on an area of around 4700 square metres RWE will lease the new building on a long-term basis. Today, the preparatory construction measures were started with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony. Subject to the granting of the permit, construction of the building is to begin in the coming weeks, with completion expected in the autumn. This will be followed by the interior of the offices and the technical equipment of the control room. Jenny Daun, First District Councillor of the Leer district, said: We are pleased that the Leer district is apparently perceived as an attractive location when it comes to the settlement of companies involved in the energy transition.” Hans-Peter Heikens, Mayor of the municipality of Jemgum, added: I am convinced that our community will benefit in many ways from the new control center for offshore wind farms. The two-storey building will meet sustainability standards by using recycled materials and energy efficient construction methods. The use of renewable energy for electricity and heat supply as well as measures to save water are also planned. The aim is to achieve certification according to the Quality Seal for Sustainable Buildings (QNG) of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building. Derk Niklas Janssen, future RWE operations manager, said: We are delighted to find our new home port here in Jemgum. “With this new building, we will offer our employees a modern and optimal working environment. “But not only our existing operations team will feel at home here. We want to continue to grow and are looking for qualified personnel – especially here in the region. The new building in Jemgum will also serve as a project office for the operation of the North Sea Cluster. |
