Work Detail The Government of Nova Scotia announced infrastructure upgrades to the Strait of Canso Superport, which will enable large turbines to move through more safely and efficiently. The project includes installation of a prefabricated bridge at the Superport’s Mulgrave Marine Terminal in Mulgrave, Guysborough County, that will make it more accessible to commercial transport routes within the region. “The Strait of Canso is a strategic area for wind energy development in the province and the Superport has a key role to play,” said Greg Morrow, Minister of Agriculture and MLA for Guysborough-Tracadie, on behalf of Colton LeBlanc, Minister of Growth and Development. “These upgrades will enable turbine components to be transported to potential project sites more efficiently.” The Province is investing $750,000 for capital upgrades to the Mulgrave Marine Terminal, including installation of the bridge. “The Strait of Canso Superport Corporation is certainly appreciative of the significant contribution from the Nova Scotia Department of Growth and Development to install this important piece of infrastructure. Investments such as this will contribute to significant economic activity and create much-needed jobs in the Strait region,” said Joe Brennan, Chair, board of directors, Strait of Canso Superport Corporation. Wind energy plays a key role in Nova Scotia’s 2030 Clean Power Plan, which aims to have 80 per cent renewable electricity by 2030 and be net-zero by 2050. This investment in the Superport supports future wind energy projects, such as the nearby onshore wind farms proposed for Guysborough County. Funding will be used for the installation of a 44-metre steel bridge at the northern end of the Superport’s Mulgrave Marine Terminal, which will provide direct access to Route 344. The bridge was purchased from Zutphen Construction for $400,000. Other projects funded through the Community Economic Development Fund include $2 million for the Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre Society and $350,000 for the Pan Cape Breton Food Hub Co-operative.
