Work Detail |
The Government of the City of Buenos Aires has begun a remodeling and expansion project at the Monuments and Works of Art (MOA) workshop, known as the “hospital of statues,” located in Plaza Sicilia within the Tres de Febrero Park. With an investment of $1,766,839,641, the project seeks to improve the working conditions of the restoration team and create spaces accessible to the public, consolidating this center as a benchmark in heritage conservation. The remodeling includes the restoration of the original workshop buildings, removing added constructions to recover their original design. Work will be done on consolidating masonry walls, repairing roofs and skylights, and clearing interior spaces. These improvements will allow the areas designated for the restoration of the more than 2,400 heritage pieces managed by the MOA to be optimized, including sculptures, busts, plaques and historical monuments. In addition, new equipment such as tables and shelves will be incorporated to facilitate the teams tasks. The extension includes the construction of two new volumes at the back of the buildings. One of them will be a pavilion for the public, with archive areas for researchers, a multipurpose room for talks and exhibitions, and an outdoor area with a metal pergola that will connect the spaces. An open-air exhibition area will also be created to display restored sculptures, encouraging interaction with the community and access to the citys cultural history. The object The renovation, scheduled for completion in the last quarter of 2025, will take place on the historic property where Juan Manuel de Rosas farm operated and where the MOA was founded in 1952. Although the workshop will be closed to guided tours during this time, the restorers will continue to work in restricted areas. |
