Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) continues to advance its commitment to sustainability and innovation through the Al Baheth programme, launched by its Research and Development (R&D) Centre. The initiative focuses on strengthening collaborations with international companies, universities, and research centres to enhance the research and professional skills of national talent. It provides UAE nationals the opportunity to work at DEWA, contributing to groundbreaking energy and water research projects designed to address future challenges. The Al Baheth programme also invites top technical candidates from local and international universities to collaborate on research with DEWA’s experts in various fields. This fosters knowledge exchange and encourages the next generation of sustainability leaders by equipping them with the latest global advancements in clean energy, digital transformation, and Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies. As part of its strategy to contribute to the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, DEWA’s R&D Centre plays a pivotal role in driving innovation. The centre attracts distinguished researchers from around the world and serves as a hub for exchanging best practices, thereby enhancing the public-private-academic partnerships that are crucial for positioning Dubai as a global leader in research and development. One key activity under the Al Baheth programme was a workshop in collaboration with Khalifa University. The session focused on renewable energy technologies and reverse osmosis (RO) water desalination advancements. The event brought together professors, students, DEWA researchers, and industry experts, who praised the workshop for enhancing their expertise and communication skills while staying abreast of cutting-edge technological developments. Dr. Emad Alhseinat, Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Khalifa University, expressed his gratitude for DEWA’s role in the workshop. He said, “We are pleased to collaborate with DEWA’s team to develop strategies for minimizing operating expenses, carbon emissions, and chemical use in RO plants, contributing to the water sector in Dubai and the UAE.” Saif Khalid Mohamed Abdulrahman AlMulla, an engineer from DEWA’s Water & Civil Division, described the partnership as inspiring, highlighting the importance of the knowledge exchange in promoting sustainability in desalination processes and addressing global water challenges. Undergraduate students from Khalifa University, including Naser Saeed Naser Abualhaman Alzaabi, Maitha Ahmed Rashed Abdulla Alshehhi, Mira Mohamed Jasim Mahmoud Almansoori, and Shaikha Mohammad Mubarak Saeed Khamis, also shared their positive experiences from the workshop, which deepened their understanding of water challenges and desalination technologies. They all emphasized the significance of such collaborations in promoting sustainable water solutions. Maryam Ali Alsuwaidi, an R&D technologist from DEWA’s R&D Centre, highlighted the programme’s role in empowering youth researchers, stating, “The opportunity to shape a sustainable future in the water sector through innovation and research is incredibly inspiring for young talent, and we are proud to contribute to their educational journeys.” The Al Baheth programme continues to build a strong foundation for research and innovation in the UAE, reinforcing DEWA’s role in driving sustainable development and advancing the water and energy sectors. |
