Construction of the new building for Elementary School No. 22 in Plaza Huincul, the citys first school with 128 years of history, has begun with earthmoving work in the Altos del Sur neighborhood. It is estimated that the work will take approximately a year and a half. This move represents a significant change for the educational community, which has been located in the current facilities since 1920. From a construction point of view, the new building will have a surface area of ??2,502 square meters and will be located in block 317 of the Altos del Sur neighborhood, on land assigned by the municipality. The work includes the construction of: Classrooms: 14 classrooms for teaching classes. Common areas: A Multipurpose Room (SUM), a multipurpose space that can function as a library or computer room. Administrative area: Seven offices and rooms for the school government and administration area. Sanitary facilities: Ten sanitary facilities, including three adapted for students with disabilities. Services: Kitchen, kiosk, machine rooms, racks and spaces for storing cisterns and tanks. Warehouses: Seven warehouses with different uses, including storage of cleaning supplies, food and SUM elements. Outdoor spaces: Access and recreational areas. This new building will solve several problems that the current building, located on San Martín Avenue in the Soufal neighborhood, presents. The current building, which has been in operation since 1920, despite the renovations and refurbishments, has limitations due to its age and does not allow for further improvements. The new building will accommodate the 418 primary level students and the 110 students from the initial level annex in modern facilities that are appropriate to current pedagogical needs. The work was put out to tender by UPEFE (Provincial Unit for Liaison and Execution of Projects with External Financing) and awarded to the firm CODAM SA for an amount of $6,531,110,128.84, less than the initial official budget of $8,374,203,299.00. The work of earth moving, placement of the perimeter fence, preparation of the land, demarcation of levels and installation of the construction site have already begun. In addition to solving the infrastructure problems of the current building, the new location in the Altos del Sur neighborhood represents an important change for the community, moving the school to a growing area of ??the city and away from the center.
