Work Detail Major works are being carried out to widen the Luján River channel, with the aim of mitigating the floods that historically affect the region and improving the quality of life of 1,500,000 people. These interventions, which cover 42 kilometres of the river, are being carried out in the municipalities of Luján, Mercedes, Pilar and Exaltación de la Cruz. From a construction perspective, the works are divided into two stages. The first focuses on the widening of the section of the channel in a 24.5 km stretch between the Belgrano Norte Railway and Provincial Route 6. This involves the shaping of the channel to adapt the mouth and restitution to the main channel in the area of ??the Gelves, RN 8, Urquiza Railway, General San Martín Railway and RP 6 bridges. In addition, the three railway bridges on the Urquiza, Belgrano Norte and Mitre lines (Victoria-Capilla del Señor branch) will be replaced. In some urban areas, riverside walkways with pedestrian paths, bicycle paths and recreational and sports areas will be built. The second stage consists of channelling and widening the river in two sections totalling 17.6 km in the districts of Luján and Mercedes. Two new road bridges with pedestrian walkways will be built on Luis Gogna Street and at the Los Huesos intersection, which connects Luján and Open Door. The replacement of the Goldney bridge, which connects Mercedes with Olivera (Luján), has already been completed. In the area of ??the Basilica of Luján, a double protective wall will be built over the channel, lined with concrete. These works seek to solve the historical problem of flooding in the Luján River basin, increasing the rivers capacity to carry water during the rains. The widening of the channel and the improvement of the bridge infrastructure will allow for better water drainage, reducing the risk of overflows and flooding. In addition, the construction of riverside walkways will improve the urban environment and offer new public spaces for the enjoyment of the community and the development of tourism. The interventions are carried out by the Provincial Directorate of Hydraulics, which is part of the Undersecretariat of Water Resources, and are part of the Comprehensive Master Plan for the Luján River Basin. This plan aims to prevent flooding, manage flows in a controlled manner, moderate the effects of flooding and protect 1,500,000 people who live in the basin, which covers 15 municipalities and 3,300 km² of surface area. The news does not mention specific construction companies.
