Work Detail In December 2024, Vaisala hosted a webinar with DNV and AES Clean Energy to talk about how Lidar helps achieve lower measurement uncertainties and guarantees higher bankability in a wind-measurement campaign. Wind Systems was given permission to publish some of the highlights of the program. It has been edited for the magazine. For the complete transcript, go to: www.vaisala.com/en/dnv-and-aes-clean-energy-q-and-a. Italian cabling giant Prysmian has awarded two contracts worth €41m ($42.5m) for work on UK subsea power systems in the North Sea to compatriot Next Geosolutions. The deal is for detailed survey services that will provide data for the design and engineering of the Eastern Green Link 1 and 2 submarine power cable systems. NextGeo will conduct comprehensive land topographic and marine geophysical and geotechnical surveying activities along the nearshore and offshore sections of the cable corridors. EGL 1 is a 2GW HVDC electrical superhighway that will be developed by a partnership between SP Energy Networks and National Grid Electricity Transmission. Work for EGL1 will start in the second quarter of 2025 and will end by the fourth quarter of 2025. The second part, EGL 2, also a 2GW HVDC electrical superhighway, will also be developed by National Grid Electricity Transmission in partnership with Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks. Work on this project will be done between the second and fourth quarters of 2026. Both projects aim to strengthen the UK’s renewable energy grid connecting Scotland and England. Prysmian is the selected EPCI contractor for both projects with the value being nearly $3bn. Activities for EGL 1 will begin in the second quarter of 2025 and be completed by the fourth quarter while survey activities related to the EGL 2 project will take place between the second and fourth quarters of 2026. For the projects, NextGeo will deploy several offshore vessels equipped with advanced survey instruments and techniques, including MacArtney Focus ROTVs and Schilling HD Work-Class ROVs. Earlier this month, Next Geosolutions was selected by Dutch-German transmission system operator TenneT for site surveys at two wind farm zones off the Netherlands.
