Work Detail TPCODL, a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has launched a modern Power Distribution Technology Centre in Bhubaneswar, setting a new benchmark in managing and improving the state’s power distribution network. The centre was inaugurated by Shri K. V. Singh Deo, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha, in the presence of Shri Manoj Ahuja, Chief Secretary, Government of Odisha; Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power; Mr. Sanjay Banga, President (T&D), Tata Power; along with the CEOs of Odisha’s Tata Power-led discoms—TPCODL, TPSODL, TPWODL, and TPNODL—and other senior officials from the Government and Tata Power. Equipped with advanced Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) systems, the centre features a 24×7 Power System Control Centre (PSCC). This facility enables real-time monitoring of the power network, efficient system operations, and uninterrupted electricity supply. It aims to strengthen Odisha’s power distribution system, ensuring smoother and more reliable operations across the state. Shri K. V. Singh Deo, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister of Odisha at the inauguration, mentioned “The Power Distribution Technology Centre is a key step in making Odisha a hub of distribution excellence. With advanced infrastructure and technologies, it ensures resilient and reliable power for the state. It reflects our vision for a future-ready energy ecosystem that supports both consumers and industries. I commend Tata Power for its unwavering commitment to strengthening power distribution in Odisha.” The newly launched Power Distribution Technology Centre by TPCODL in Bhubaneswar is designed with Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) to ensure improved network reliability and precise operational control. It incorporates Geographical Information System (GIS) technology for efficient asset management and consumer indexing, while the Utility Data Stream (UDS) automates energy audits by seamlessly integrating GIS, billing, and meter management systems. The centre also features real-time weather monitoring and satellite communication, enhancing connectivity and operational efficiency. The centre’s 24×7 Power System Control Centre (PSCC) oversees the 33 kV network, including 224 SCADA-integrated primary substations and their connected 11 kV infrastructure, ensuring a reliable and efficient power distribution network. A state-of-the-art Data Centre supports this facility, hosting over 100 racks and 400 servers that power critical consumer services like websites, mobile apps, call centres, and billing systems. The centre also strengthens disaster recovery capabilities for all four Tata Power-led Odisha DISCOMs. The PSCC functions as the Main Control Centre (MCC) for TPCODL and as the Backup Control Centre (BCC) for TPWODL, TPSODL, and TPNODL, ensuring uninterrupted operations during any potential disruptions. The BCC in Sambalpur plays a crucial role in maintaining continuity across the state. Since taking over Odisha’s distribution business, Tata Power-led DISCOMs have continuously modernized infrastructure to provide reliable and sustainable power. This new Technology Centre marks a major milestone in leveraging advanced technology to benefit consumers and stakeholders. Serving over 5 crore consumers, it reflects the collective vision of Tata Power Odisha DISCOMs to establish a cutting-edge, technology-driven power distribution system, making Odisha one of the most advanced regions in the country for power distribution.
