In a new weekly update for pv magazine , OPIS, a Dow Jones company, provides a quick look at key price trends in the global PV industry. FOB China : The Chinese Module Marker (CMM), OPIS benchmark assessment for TOPCon modules from China, fell 1.15% on the week to $0.086/W Free-On-Board (FOB) China, amid lower price indications of $0.080-$0.092/W. Despite firm upward pricing, module prices remain under pressure as manufacturers continue to lower bid guidance. One of the top five module manufacturers told OPIS that 2025 load prices have not increased significantly, even with higher raw material costs. Current bids from major utility-scale project manufacturers are in the low $0.080/W range. The FOB price of China TOPCon module for the first half of 2025 load was set at $0.085/W, with values ??ranging from $0.082-0.087/W. For the second half of 2025, prices fell by 1.2% to $0.084/W, with lower indications ranging from $0.082-0.087/W. Prices for the first quarter of 2026 were assessed at $0.083/W, with values ??ranging from $0.083-0.087/W. DDP Europe : TOPCon modules are down slightly as the market awaits price guidance at the beginning of the new year. OPIS estimates the average price at €0.098/W, down 1.01%, with guidance ranging from a low of €0.080/W to a high of €0.115/W for Tier1 panels. European traders are closely following the efforts of the Chinese manufacturing industry to rebalance supply and demand through controlled production cuts. European sources said this could lead to a small price increase after the upcoming Chinese New Year holidays at the end of January. But for now, the outlook will remain one of low prices, as stocks in Europe remain too large and distributors need liquidity. “That is why we saw a lot of dumping prices in December,” sources told OPIS. In the residential sector, demand for solar panels varies from country to country, as legislation and subsidy schemes differ. While Germany promotes rooftop and balcony applications, Italy focuses on smaller projects and Eastern Europe is betting on larger solar installations. Average EXW prices from residential solar panel distributors range from €0.125 to €0.100/W, depending on volumes. DDP US : The spot price for TOPCon DDP US utility-scale modules rose 0.71% this week to $0.284/W. Looking ahead, OPIS assesses the cost of TOPCon modules at $0.293/W in Q2 2025, $0.291/W in Q3, and $0.282/W at year-end and in 2026. A developer source says TOPCon modules from “preferred” manufacturers in countries subject to the ongoing AD/CVD case are being quoted at between $0.29 and $0.32/W, while US producers assembling modules from Indonesian cells are offering prices below $0.20/W. Concerns about potential changes to the Inflation Reduction Act are widespread, and companies continue to hedge equipment to ensure eligibility in 2025 for the Investment Tax Credit. The developer source said his company is focusing on purchasing high-voltage circuit breakers and generator step-up transformers (GSUs). The source said a major community solar developer is focusing its own strategy on projects located in “energy communities,” out of fear that the additional tax credit could be eliminated. |
