This smart grid technology also interfaces with IoT cloud servers, enabling more rapid response and coordination of mitigation strategies The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) activated a system to monitor the national grid in real-time. The company’s engineers deployed the Generation Dip/Loss Detection System (GLDS) in April 2024 to aid in detecting and responding to sudden drops or dips in power generation across the network. According to TCN, the system’s intuitive interface allows the setting of parameters, continuous monitoring of power generating stations across the country, and comprehensive reporting functionalities, enabling swift responses to grid disturbances. The GLDS incorporates sophisticated data analytics and machine learning algorithms to analyse real-time data and identify patterns. TCN said that by leveraging anomaly detection techniques, the GLDS can alert grid controllers of deviations from normal grid behaviour, “facilitating proactive intervention to prevent widespread disruptions.” This smart grid technology also interfaces with IoT cloud servers, enabling more rapid response and coordination of mitigation strategies.
