The Palermo station of the San Martín Train is about to be completely renovated, with an investment of more than 1.8 billion pesos. The state-owned company Trenes Argentinos Infraestructura is moving towards the awarding of the work, after opening the envelope with the economic proposal of the corporation TECMA, whose technical offer had already been declared admissible. The renovation project will address several issues at the station, which is deteriorating over time. Shelters on the platforms will be enlarged and enclosed, ensuring natural ventilation and lighting. Existing roofs will be replaced with new corrugated sheets to address water leaks during rainy days. One of the most important improvements will be the definitive opening of the access on Juan B. Justo Avenue. At this new entrance, turnstiles, an office for security personnel and ticket offices will be installed. In addition, the two stairs at this access will be adapted, along with the staircase located on the side of Santa Fe Avenue, to facilitate the movement of users. Other tasks included in the renovation include the restoration of the public toilets, the creation of a green point, the modernisation of the electrical and audio system, the cleaning of the north and south platforms, and the restoration of the tower located in one of the commercial premises on the ascending platform. Priority will be given to the rescue and restoration of the damaged original parts in order to preserve the stations heritage features. The work is part of the railway emergency, which underlines its necessity and urgency. With TECMAs financial offer already on the table (1,813,204,534.77 pesos), it is expected that the award and the start of the works will take place in the next few weeks.
