Work Detail The Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) is ramping up efforts to launch the long-delayed New Kanpur City project in 2025. The authority is currently preparing the site plan based on the land it has acquired, considering topography and planning for necessary infrastructure like roads, sewer systems, and drinking water pipelines. First conceived in 1996, the project had faced numerous delays. The initial phase will cover 53.31 hectares, including parts of Sambalpur, Gangapur, Chakbada, Singhpur Kachar, Hindupur, and Bairi Akbarpur villages. KDA has already acquired around 45 hectares and is negotiating for the remaining land. Village farmers have agreed to provide an additional 5 hectares, which will bring the total land area to 50 hectares. The KDA has allocated Rs 183.5 crore for the infrastructure work, and the district administration is awaiting approval from the state government to acquire the remaining 39.69 hectares, with land acquisition set to begin next month. In parallel, KDA has initiated efforts to clear illegal encroachments on acquired land. Recent actions led to the recovery of approximately 70 bighas of KDA land at Sanigawan village, with additional encroachments identified in Bara Sirohi, Maswanpur, Panki Gangaganj, and Daheli Sujanpur. The value of the recovered land is estimated at Rs 8 billion. KDA is also conducting verification of its residential schemes, identifying roughly 1,200 plots under development. With these efforts, the KDA aims to ensure the smooth execution of the New Kanpur City project, which is expected to significantly improve infrastructure and urban development in the region.
