KPI Green Energy has made significant progress on its 200 MW (240 MW DC) solar project in Khavda, awarded to them by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. (GUVNL) in August 2023. The project, which is set to be connected to the Central Transmission Utility (CTU), aims for commercial operation between May 31, 2025, and November 30, 2025. However, KPI is targeting an early completion of the project and remains confident in exceeding the set deadlines with a focus on maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency. Upon completion, this project will increase KPI’s operational IPP portfolio from 171 MWp to 411 MWp. Khavda, with its exceptional solar potential, is the ideal location for large-scale solar installations. The region enjoys over 300 sunny days each year, with a solar irradiation rate of 2,060 kWh/m², ensuring high energy output and efficiency. Additionally, the flat terrain and ample land availability reduce construction complexities, making it suitable for advanced solar technologies. The proximity to Gujarat’s energy grid and industrial hubs facilitates easy transmission of renewable energy to demand centers, further promoting energy security and sustainability. KPI is incorporating advanced technologies in the Khavda project to enhance efficiency and sustainability. One of the key features is the IoT-powered robotic cleaning system, which ensures an impressive 98% cleaning efficiency. With 550 dedicated robots, the entire 240 MWp plant will be cleaned in just three hours, reducing water consumption significantly. The Network Operations Center (NOC) will provide real-time monitoring of the plant, ensuring consistent energy production and enhancing reliability with immediate alerts. The integration of the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system allows for efficient data collection and synchronization. In terms of innovations, KPI has implemented corrosion protection for critical equipment, which will increase the longevity of assets. Cable laying has been optimized with protective sand layering to ensure better insulation and protection. The unique soil strata in Khavda have been taken into account, with adapted foundation and civil structure designs to ensure stability. The company has also implemented elevated storage solutions for materials and equipment to protect them during seasonal rains, ensuring the availability of materials when needed. KPI has developed modern staffing facilities to ensure a conducive work environment and maintain lower attrition rates, which is crucial for maintaining productivity. Additionally, the company has set up a dedicated communication infrastructure with a network tower to ensure seamless communication across the site. The Khavda project is expected to generate approximately 47.3 Cr kWh annually, which will electrify about 1.3 lakh homes using green energy. It is also estimated that the project will save about 3.4 lakh metric tonnes of CO2 every year, which is equivalent to planting 11,000 trees annually. Additionally, the project will create around 1,000 green jobs, contributing to the local economy. KPI’s construction and supply chain activities are progressing as planned, with 90% of the project construction already complete. Equipment ordering is fully complete, and 60% of the equipment has been delivered, with the remaining 40% on schedule. KPI remains on track to finish the project ahead of schedule. Dr. Alok Das, CEO of KPI Group, expressed that the company is proud to support the National Green Mission and the vision of building the world’s largest Hybrid Renewable Energy Park. The Khavda project is expected to play a vital role in advancing India’s renewable energy goals while generating significant local employment and fostering sustainable growth in the region. |
