The Municipality of La Plata is moving forward with the comprehensive restoration of the Pasaje Dardo Rocha, an emblematic building in the city. This Monday, January 13, the tender offers for the work were opened, which has an investment of $2.815 million and is expected to begin at the end of the month. The project seeks to recover the original splendor of the building by repairing facades, roofs, sidewalks and internal installations.
The work will focus on the buildings "envelope", addressing the most critical problems detected in a thorough analysis. The flat and sloping roofs will be repaired to fix leaks and structural damage that have affected ceilings, walls, plaster and flooring. The walkable roofs will be repaired, as they have an ageing waterproofing system, loosening and drainage problems that cause flooding and leaks.
The facades, although they were renovated in 2019, show superficial dirt, especially on the upper cornice, green stains and deterioration caused by zoological agents. The facade on Calle 6 shows greater deterioration of the stone-like coating, with humidity stains and salt efflorescence. Patches with incompatible paints will be removed and overhead cables and visible installations will be tidied up.
The exterior carpentry, both iron and wood, is in a significant state of deterioration due to lack of maintenance. The iron carpentry, especially the canopies on 49th Street, is showing corrosion and loss of section. The roller blinds are mostly unusable, and broken and missing glass can be seen in the canopies. The paint layer on the carpentry is dirty, peeling and drying out.
The exterior flooring will also be renovated, correcting the loss of plane and unevenness. The marble stairs and thresholds have stains, cracks and patches made with unsuitable materials. The work also includes the renovation of the electrical installation and the reconditioning of the main access on 49th Street, including the area of ??Radio Municipal. Old structures such as a garbage bin and a bicycle rack on 50th Street will be removed. The news does not mention the companies that submitted bids for the tender.
