The renovation of the Labruna Bridge, now called the Innovation Bridge, on the border of Núñez and Belgrano, has begun, with the aim of improving mobility and creating safe crossings between the city centre and the Costanera. The work, carried out by the state-owned company AUSA (Autopistas Urbanas SA), will last 24 months and is expected to open in mid-2026. The main construction intervention consists of the redesign of the existing bridge, which currently has only one lane in each direction and a narrow pedestrian walkway. New lanes for cars and bicycles will be built, as well as wider and safer collector streets and pedestrian crossings. The current pedestrian walkway will be removed, moving it to the southeast side of the two one-way lanes, creating a new pedestrian and bicycle crossing by widening the existing deck. New vehicular entrance and exit ramps will be added for Lugones and Cantilo avenues, improving the connection with these important arteries. Specifically, the following will be built: a Northwest lane for the crossing from the Innovation Park to Ciudad Universitaria and Av. Cantilo, with a two-lane viaduct that crosses over Lugones and Cantilo avenues, and FC Belgrano Norte; a Southeast lane for the crossing from Cantilo to the Innovation Park and the entrance to Lugones Av. from Ciudad Universitaria; and collectors of Av. Lugones and the northern end of the Innovation Park, which will connect Av. Campos Salles with the Northwest Branch, Av. Udaondo and Av. Lugones, generating an elevated plaza over the collectors with hierarchical pedestrian and bicycle accesses. This project seeks to solve several problems: the current configuration of the bridge creates an urban barrier between the city and the coast, hindering the flow of people and vehicles. Pedestrian crossings are unsafe and vehicle capacity is limited. The renovation seeks to improve connectivity between places of interest such as the Parque de la Innovación, the River Plate stadium, Ciudad Universitaria and several sports clubs, benefiting more than 350 thousand residents who frequent the area daily. The segmentation of the lanes for each type of user (cars, bicycles, pedestrians) will increase road safety. Pedestrian access to the bridge will be improved from five points: the north gate of Ciudad Universitaria, the path from the UBA sports field (subject to approval), the railway platforms (Ciudad Universitaria station), Boulevard Campos Salles and Av. Both the stairs and the ramps will have rest areas and an increased width (2.50 m and 4.00 m respectively) for greater comfort, as well as concrete guides for bicycles on the sides of the stairs.
